Platignum are one of the most historic and innovative British pen manufacturers, having developed numerous cutting-edge improvements to pens since their 1919 founding in London. They invented the world's first replaceable nib in 1925, the retractable ball-point in 1950, and introduced the first cartridge system in 1965. During the Second World War they stayed busy, despite being limited to only 25% of their pre-war production, by making 'spy pens' containing maps, compasses, or poisoned darts with a range of 20ft.
